Welcome to the second edition of the Spartan Insider VIP Newsletter. It’s been another great week of tough strength & conditioning this past week. We’re into the second last week of our 6 week Tri Sets Program so expect to hear about some targets being smashed in next weeks newsletter. Dumbbell Bench Press
 
Bench Press is one of the most popular exercises among guys for strengthening the chest, shoulders and triceps. Performing this classic with dumbbells offers some great advantages. These include a greater range of motion than a traditional barbell bench press, more of a challenge for the core muscles that help you to stabilize two moving objects and that also helps strengthen the small stabilizing muscles in the shoulder joint.

Flex your pecs together hard
 
When nearing the top of the movement with dumbbell bench presses think “cleavage”. You need to flex your pecs together hard, get that big pump in the chest and show your best Katy Perry impression.

Burnsey bangs out the dips!
 
SpotlightMark Burns only started Spartan Training Club this program but he’s tackling things full steam ahead as he gears towards Xmas and an overseas skiing holiday. As the original Challenge Week MVP from 2010, Burnsey has always had a great work ethic but his determination through this program has seen him progress from Tricep Push Ups to now getting 18 reps on the more advanced Parallel Bar Dips. Look out for a big season of Kiama Rugby from this guy in 2014

Spartan of the Year – Super Stats
 
SpotlightDaniel Rouse-Stanton is someone who started with us in March. Initially he did Boot Camp, then our Challenge Week. He eventually got talking with some of our Spartan clients and decided it was the next level of training he needed. Seven months later he was crowned our “Spartan of the Year” and his results speak for themselves. Here’s what he had to say:
 
“My entire body shape has changed… I have dropped almost 10 kg and two clothes sizes in 9 months. I now weigh the same as I did when I left High School 20 years ago. But it is my functional capacity that has meant more to me than my physique. I don’t slump to sit and stand, I bound up stairs, my movement is with much more control and better posture with less joint and back pain that I have had for almost a decade.
To me oxygen feels like a big family with everyone pushing everyone else to achieve beyond what you think your limits are; even when competing against each other.
